Before a couple can get a marriage license, they will need to appear in person at the clerk's office and provide:
The cost for the marriage license, including the state and county fees is $93.50. However, couples who attend an approved premarital course will only pay $61.00. In order to receive this discount, the couple must bring the premarital course certificate of completion with them when they apply for their license.
After applying for your Florida marriage license, there is a 3-day waiting period. The couple will not be able to be married until the effective date. However, when a couple takes an approved premarital course, the county clerk will waive the waiting period. This will allow couples to be married on the same day. Non-Florida residents do not have a waiting period. Once you receive your marriage license, it is valid for 60 days from the issue date. The license must be returned to the clerk's office within 10 days after the ceremony is performed. After the marriage has taken place and the license has been returned, Gulf county clerk's office will send the couple 4 certified copies of the marriage certificate at no charge. Couples who wish to have additional copies may purchase them for $4.50 each.

Since Gulf county is near the Gulf of Mexico, some couples wish to have their ceremony aboard a ship. Couples who chose this route should be aware that the captain must be a notary and the ship must be within 3 geographic miles of the coastline at the time of the ceremony in order for it to be a valid marriage.
